Integrating OLPC XO-1 to the education curricula sounds very promising, but there ARE a lot more problems in the current Philippine education system like underpaid and incompetent teachers, lack of facilities, etc, and handling these laptops pose hard work. But OLPC XO-1 might stimulate the creativity of many young children. What do you think?
I suggest you read these first:

I "used to" have an extensive knoweledge in basic. And still do other hobby programming in html and some visualbasic & darkbasic.
Im not even sure what programming language i would even need to most effeciently acces the peripheri.
Gosh i hope not c++ lol..
q1: I want to integrate a camera with software, likewise perhaps usb robotic arm or something lol. ( I basically want to know the best way to exchange I & O's through any circuit.
q2: a REAL website with amateur examples and how-tos.
* I just read on sciencedaily.com that some robot can pick up an object if a laser points to it. I just think it would be neat to pick up that hobby again and maybe work on an AI program.

I want to make a touch switch with a 555 IC. I don't want any kits but I do have a schematics already and procedures from this site:
http://home.maine.rr.com/randylinscott/j...
My questions are:
1. It says that the input voltage should be around 5 - 15 volts. What do I need to add to the circuit to step down a 220 volts electric source?
2. How do I make a homemade touch plates?
3. If I were going to attach this to a light source, what should i modify in the schematics for the light to remain on instead of going out after a few seconds?
4. I'm planning to integrate this with an microchip wherein the first touch would activate the light normally, second touch would make it dimmer till it goes out and third would just turn it off. Where should I place the microchip in the schematics?

Access Control Systems
Access control systems are a popular security measure for large and small businesses. Access control systems offer easy to use and easy to maintain security features for a wide variety of applications.
An Introduction to Access Control Systems^
Access control systems are a popular security solution for larger businesses with many employees. Access control systems enable you to conveniently allow access to only necessary corporate areas to each employee on an individual basis. Access control systems most often use a badge or id with a magnetic strip with encoded information. Keypads, fingerprint scanners and other technology can also be incorporated into an access control system, depending upon security needs and practical considerations. A good access control system provider can help by designing a system that meets your specific corporate security needs. An access control system can easily and cost-efficiently provide you with needed corporate security, as well as numerous other benefits.
Access control systems can also be effectively used in small businesses, hotels, and even apartment complexes and college dormitories. Access control technology can save changing locks with each tenant or employee turnover, and allow you to feel safe in the secured environment. Convenient and easy to use, access control systems are becoming a more popular security option each year. Access control systems can also take the place of your traditional time clock, improving employee performance and punctuality. Employee activities can be easily monitored with the many features an access control system offers.
~How Do Access Control Systems Work?^
The most basic access control systems keep a record of when and by whom a given door was opened. Without the appropriate code or ID badge, the door remains locked. More complex access control systems may also include a timecard feature, clocking in your employees when they enter and clocking them out when they leave. In this instance, it is important that you choose an access control system with software that is compatible with your time and attendance software.
You may also wish to look for an access control system that is compatible with other security measures already in place, such as monitored alarms or closed circuit TV. Be certain to bring up any systems in place that you would like to integrate as you begin inquiring about access control systems to further the security measures already in place in your business. While ID badge swiping access control systems are the most common, keypads are another popular option. Keypads are a less secure option, as they may not allow you to record which employee has entered, but they are a popular choice, for both home and business applications. If high security is critical, you may find that biometric scans, such as a thumbprint scan, are a valuable option for your business.

McCain's Radical Foreign Policy
Amid the din of the dueling Democrats, people seem to have forgotten about that other guy in the presidential race-you know, John McCain. McCain is said to be benefiting from this politically because his rivals are tearing each other apart. In fact, few people are paying much attention to what the Republican nominee is saying, or subjecting it to any serious scrutiny.
On March 26, McCain gave a speech on foreign policy in Los Angeles that was billed as his most comprehensive statement on the subject. It contained within it the most radical idea put forward by a major candidate for the presidency in 25 years. Yet almost no one noticed.
In his speech McCain proposed that the United States expel Russia from the G8, the group of advanced industrial countries. Moscow was included in this body in the 1990s to recognize and reward it for peacefully ending the cold war on Western terms, dismantling the Soviet empire and withdrawing from large chunks of the old Russian Empire as well. McCain also proposed that the United States should expand the G8 by taking in India and Brazil-but pointedly excluded China from the councils of power.
We have spent months debating Barack Obama's suggestion that he might, under some circumstances, meet with Iranians and Venezuelans. It is a sign of what is wrong with the foreign-policy debate that this idea is treated as a revolution in U.S. policy while McCain's proposal has barely registered. What McCain has announced is momentous-that the United States should adopt a policy of active exclusion and hostility toward two major global powers. It would reverse a decades-old bipartisan American policy of integrating these two countries into the global order, a policy that began under Richard Nixon (with Beijing) and continued under Ronald Reagan (with Moscow). It is a policy that would alienate many countries in Europe and Asia who would see it as an attempt by Washington to begin a new cold war.
I write this with sadness because I greatly admire John McCain, a man of intelligence, honor and enormou

The voltage and current for an unidentified circuit element w/ 2 terminals are zero for t < 0. For t >/= 0 they are
v = 50 e^(-1600t) - 50 e^(-400t) Volts
i = 5 e^(-1600t) - 5 e^(-400t) Amps
How much energy is delivered to the circuit element between 0 and 625 microseconds?
Note: Current is flowing in the direction of a voltage drop.
Note that I'm to find the total energy over a specified period of time. I think I need to integrate over the interval 0 to 625 microseconds, but I tried that and I can't seem to get it right.

|
|
|
The current through a given circuit element is given by:
i(t)=2e^-t A
Find the net charge that passes through the element in the interval from t=0 to t=infinity.
(HINT: Current is the rate of flow of charge. Thus, to find charge, we must integrate current with respect of time.)
Thank you !!!

Well it started when people were messing with the circuit breaker in my house. It shut my computer off about 4 times, and by that point when I try to turn it on, the computer powers on, but doesn't connect with the monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.. The only reaction my computer gives me when I turn it on is a low grind-like sound coming from the hard drive. I've isolated the RAM sticks to see if RAM was the issue....it wasn't. All my fans are working perfectly, and nothing is 'noticeably' wrong with the motherboard when I look at it. I've disconnected the hard drive to see if it even connects with the monitor, but it doesn't. My graphics card is integrated. The monitor just says "check pc cable" when the computer turns on, and the mouse doesn't turn on at all. I did have the computer hooked up to a surge protector when the power was being shut off, so I don't see why it would happen. The only options I can think of is the hard drive or motherboard.
256MB DDR RAM
40GB ATA/100 Hard drive

I've been hearing people talking about cheap laptops at best buy, circuit city, and etc... with Nvidia 8400 graphics cards for the price of 800 dollars or less. But I don't' think that Nvidia offers those cards anymore. Because the last time I checked, for a good 700-800 dollars, they have a Integrated Nvidia 7150 video card or less for the price. Am I the only one noticing that? I don't want to spend 1000 dollard on a laptop with a Nvidia 8400 GS graphics card. Because at the price, I can get a desktop with better specs with a cheaper price. But I really need a laptop for college, a little gaming, but mainly school work. I never buy stuff online with credit card or stuff like that.(that's just me), So should I just go ahead and buy a laptop with the Nividia 7150 graphics card they offer in stores?? or does any1 else have a better idea. (Best answer for 10 points). Thanks.

Over the weekend, the CD player in my 2001 Celica suddenly stopped working. After starting the car, I ejected the CD in the player, then tried to put in another one - and the loader did not pull the disc in. Additionally, when I push the 'CD' button on the audio console, nothing happens. I can switch between AM, FM 1/2, and Tape without issue. But when I push the 'CD' button, it's as if the console can't tell that the CD player is there.
So my question is really two-part:
1) What might be the problem? Could it be a blown fuse? I kind of doubt it, since the rest of the audio system is working fine. More likely it's something with the CD player itself. So...
2) If the player has gone bust, how hard is it to replace? The CD player, tuner, and tape player seem pretty tightly integrated; I imagine any replacement will involve putting a new all-in-one audio system in, no? For a car audio rookie, is it best to let the folks at Circuit City do the installation for you?
Thanks!

My computer makes grinding noises when I start it up, and on and off while use. It works for about 20 minutes after sitting for a day, but after that it either freezes (stops everything, cant even move mouse) or the screen will go blank. After this, the computer will work for about a minute before this happens again. So the grinding has to be hardware. I'm thinking video card but not sure? Any advice? Also, any programs I can run on it while it works to find out what hardware is bad? What place do you recommend taking it to? (best buy, circuit city, etc?). Other than this it works great. No viruses causing this. Even windows pops up and says hardware has malfunctioned. Thanks for the help!
(Running XP Home, SP2, had kaspersky until we did a system restore to try and fix this. Has upgraded graphics card from integrated to ati radeon. computer is about 5 years old but works great besides this, 1.5 gb ram.)

Buying a computer for gaming?
I want to buy a cheap core 2 duo 500$ gaming computer
so far i have found this
http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDe...
Now currently i have a comp with
2GB ram dual channel
Intel pentium d 820
250gb stata HDD 7200rpm
HD 3850 graphics card
470w Silencer ATX PSU (520w peak)
now i was wondering if i bought that circuit city computer and then took the psu n put it in this computer and put my current Graphics card and Power supply in that one would it be a good enough gaming comp? i hate running wow at 20-60fps and same with call of duty 4 and world at war. my cpu bottlenecks the gpu
a HD3850 can max COD 4..lol but my motherboard cant use core 2 duo. that computer has better specs then my current one and MY current comp has integrated graphics to. you just uninstall it and put graphics card in..
i dont know how to build/take a computer apart so and taking a motherboard off is like taking the whole thing apart.
