a) A major breakthrough in supercondictivity occured when it was discovered that a lanthanum-barium-coper oxide became superconducting at 35 K. This mixed metal oxide is a ceramic with the same structure as perovskite (question 1). This was a very surprising result, since perovskite itself is an insulator.
b) The electrical conductivity of metals decreases with increasing temperature.
c) In theory, the electrical conductivity of a metal at 0 K should be very large.
d) For a metal to be classified as a superconductor there must be a critical temperature (Tc), that is finite but relatively high, where electrical resistance jumps to infinity.

Funny coming from a guy who always denounces MTV. :) BUT...
Do you know or have you ever seen people you know in music videos? I would *guess* this one's sort of a long shot for most, but y'never know.
Maybe YOU'VE been in a nationally-aired music vid' yourself?!
Give links & time frames :)
Mine:
In Ashford & Simpson's 1985 "Solid" video, I went to high school w/ the African American girl seen in Ashford's (the guy) arms. Pause it at 3:13.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC4FqV7YC...
Amazingly, the other one for me is from a RUSH video! "Superconductor". I used to work at a video store in the city back in the day & this girl was a fairly regular customer. She came in one day & casually told me she was in a Rush video! I freaked & kept telling her how lucky she was. She didn't seem phased much at all. Guess she was randomly chosen & wasn't a huge Rush fan...like me. ;)
She has long brown hair & she's wearing a white t-shirt. Pause it at the:
- :33 second mark. She's behind the keyboards
- 1:01, she's the 3rd person from the right
-1:29, when the words, "Target on the market" appear. She's right under the "R" in the word 'target'.

Whenever you see videos of magnetic levitation,
http://youtube.com/watch?v=c3asSdngzLs&f...
what's in the black box? its a superconductor right, but how is it positioned? is it a coil of the superconducting wire or what?

Consider normal-copper to supercunductve-lead junction.
At low temprature conductivity electrons in copper have energies ~kT above level of chemical potential µ. This chemical potential must be obviously equal in normal and superconductive metals. At the same time in superconductor avalable levels have minimum energy ? above µ, where ?~kTc is superconductive energy gap.
When temperture T is much less than critical temperatre Tc of superconductive transition, then normal electons do not posess enogh energy to enter superconductive region.
Conclusion:
when T<<Tc electric current cannot flow through the n-s junction.
