A balloon is rated to burst when the pressure difference across its surface reaches 11 psi. A party manager uses a pump to inflate some balloons in his air-conditioned shop at a temperature of 15oC until the pump's pressure gauge reads 10.5 psi higher than atmospheric pressure. He takes the balloons, among many other things, to the party but forgets to take out them out of his car. By the time he remembers the balloons, the temperature inside the closed car had reached 27oC. Did the balloons pop?

multiple choice question

A string of fixed length that is tied at both ends can vibrate in a superposition of standing waves that

I. can only have two different frequencies

II. can have any frequency allowed for the string
III. can only have frequencies that are either even or odd harmonics
IV. can only have frequencies that are integer multiples of the lowest frequency in the set
I want to do an experiment in my physics class which involves sound-wave superposition. For that experiment I have the following tools:
--Two speakers
--A microphone
--Adobe Audition (with which I can generate a constant-frequency tone, select from which speaker that tone will come out, and record a result. For example, I can create two tones, position them half-a-cycle-time from each other and see that in the middle of the speakers I hear almost nothing. Also I can record it and view the result).

What would you suggest I should demonstrate with the experiment? In what angle (of the speakers) will I get the best results? Should I do the experiment in a room or outside?

Any suggestions will be accepted.

A previous question asked about a root of:
f(x) = 4x^7 +6x^6 +3x^5 +250x^4 +1000x^3 +75x^2 -20x +17

Can you estimate or generalize approximately about the roots, using only, pencil and paper, factorizations or approximations? (no calculators, computers, solvers or Newton-Raphson. See how far you can get using your head!).
Can you at least bound the regions in which each root lies, by identifying the zero-crossings of f?

Two ideas: a) since all terms other than "-20x" are positive, most roots will be negative.
Hence it might make it algebraically easier to substitute u?(-x) and consider
f(u) = -4u^7 +6u^6 -3u^5 +250u^4 -1000u^3 +75u^2 +20u +17

b) I'm thinking one promising way might be to regard it as the superposition of two (or more) polynomials, a high-order one and a lower-order one.

Your thoughts?

Do geologists use trace fossils, index fossils, molds ,or cast 2 date rock layers?

thanks for your help!
Even though schools are doing so already?

Consider this: All sciences agree with the theory since it all comes together nicely. Plate Tectonics (geologists) agree. Paleontologists and Oncologists agree, biologists agree. Pretty much every science agrees with evolution since they are dependent on it for success.
Even the Earth seems to go along with it. Fossils from primitive animals such as trilobites, jellyfish, worms, sponges (not dinosaurs or mammals) are located on the bottom of sedimentary rock layers, while the ‘newest’ animals are in the top. These include mammals. This is so important that its become the law of superposition. Iridium, in the K-T boundary (the layer of rock that separates the extinction from the dinosaurs from the time of mammals) indicates that it either came from an asteroid impact or volcanic eruptions.
Radiometric dating also agrees with evolution in the sense that its a method to date rock, and artifacts. Its come to a conclusion that the Earth is 4.5 billion years. Don’t you think that plenty of time for organisms to slowly change from one thing to another?

Back to my question, would you (including theists) accept the theory of evolution to be taught in schools?
If not, consider this one last thing. Have you ever seen dinosaur paintings in the caves in which 'cavemen' lived?
Would it have to be Local or non-local? I feel If local it 'travels' but it could be easily blocked out by the Earths magentic field, also to weak of a signal quickly lost a few inches above the skull . "But if in a state of entanglement",quantum superluminal communication (QSC). Its everywhere, Theoretically nothing can travel faster than light, whatever travels faster than the velocity of "c"(speed of light) would be infinity. Thought wave travels at infinty because it is non-local, it is at once there and at once here because it is everywhere and does not move at all. Infinity for any object would be in a state of quantum superposition.

relativity equation given by Einstein is:

M = Mo / sqrt(1 - (v^2 / c^2) )

where M is mass moving at speed v, Mo is rest mass (mass of body when it is at rest), c is speed of light.
As u can see if v becomes equal to c then the denominator in the equation will become 0,
so Mass M will become infinity. Anything faster than light is infinit

Lets repeat the old one: I invented a time machine, went back to the past and killed my father before I was born, hence, I was not born... etc...
We cater to these paradoxes calling upon a Cosmic Time Censorship that "abhors" paradoxes and prevent them!
We cater for changes made in the past to affect and create a NEW timeline, or a parallel Universe!
We cater for our uncertainties in inventing the Shroedinger's cat...

But think of this little set-up:
"A Time travel office.
The traveller: I'll go in the past and change it, so the present will be right.
The Agent: The present will be the same: your travel through time HAS ALREADY TAKEN PLACE, and what you see today is the result of your trip!"

This let me think of another way of looking at Time:
What IF Time had already existed from the big bang to the big crunch? What if ALL events (past, present and future) had already taken place and are INVARIABLE?

Suddenly, since ALL time trips have already taken place, the "changes" we "do" in the "past" CANNOT affect our present/future: our trip to the past had already taken place and our present is the result of THAT trip.
This solves a few problems:
- There is NO paradox: Even if I go to the past to kill my father, my trip, somehow, will fail, for the simple reason that I am alive - Otherwise, I would NOT have made the trip, and there is no need for the Cosmic Censorship.
- There is no principle of uncertainty: the cat is dead OR alive, not in a "superposition of state". The fact that we open the box does NOT "FIX" the state: it just SHOWS it.
- There is no need for multiple Simultaneous Universes, reflecting every possible quantum states of THAT Universe: there is only one.

Your thoughts? (preferably serious!)
Hi, I have questions on interference that I need help with because I don't have their solutions so I don't know if the answers I'm thinking of are right or wrong. I would really appreciate if you can please indicate the questions you answer. Thank you very much.

1) Would the headlights of a distant car form a two-source interference pattern? If so, how might it be observed? If not, why not?

2) Coherent light with wavelength lambda falls on two narrow slits separated by a distance d. If d is less than some minimum value, no dark fringes are observed. Explain. In terms of lambda, what is this minimum value of d?

3) In using the superposition principle to calculate intensities in interference patterns, could you add the intensities of the waves instead of their amplitudes? Explain. (If it's related to electromagnetism, please give me more explanations).

4) A glass windowpane with a thin film of water on it reflects less than when it's perfectly dry. Why? (Interference in thin films)
here are several phenomenals that i personally experiences occasionally in my lifetimes, recently i watch a video from google over the issue like telepathy, telekenesis and precognition, i have a few postulate
1.the level of seriousness and attention has things to do more or less with reality, that is so like special relativity and quantum mechanic, that the observer position has things to do with the things being measured, for example, the more i want to find something, the more i cannot find it
2.the level of passion and confidence has things to do with how much people and friend help me or support me, more than what they deserve based on what i do to them, or has things to do with patient health, some saying that has things to do with cancer-curing patient, in the beginning i think that is coincidence, or confidence change people's attitute toward me in return, later i find there must be things beyond that
3.i find i can temporarily believe in things i know to be wrong, for example, i personally believe in too high goal is harmful, but i can change when i have special need, that is so like a quantum superposition and quantum logic that tolerate things right and wrong at the same time to be memorized by the brain rather than a rigid boolean logic
4.the time is relativistic, and that is known by so many other people a long time ago
5.i as well as many other has experience that we seem to have seen something we known in some way, not in dream, not seen or whatever(we do not know), we just feel the completely same scene has ever met before
6.drugs, drinks has the impact to make us believe in things wrong, and also the external noise and disruption by people's skepticism and criticism can temporarily change what we firmly believe logically to be correct
7. a few times i feel what i am thinking is also thought about by the people around me
i hope somebody could show me something about the book over the parapsychology and the physical correlate, that help me explain those phenomonals

thanks
